Expedition photographs, 1894.

Original photographs taken on an expedition led by Frederick Cook to the western coast of Greenland in 1894. The expedition ship, Miranda, foundered and the group was rescued by the ship Rigel. Included in the collection are photographs of the ships, expedition members, natives of Greenland, and some natural phenomena. Many of the photographs were taken by Rudolf Kersting, the expedition photographer. The story of the expedition is recounted in Henry Walsh, Last cruise of the Miranda (1896), where some of the photographs are published.
